What causes hair loss in men?

Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) is a genetic trait. It's calledAndrogenetic Alopecia. It's inherited from your family. If the men in your family are showing a bald spot on the crown, it's likely you will too.

This is an issue men have been dealing with for centuries. According to legend, Julius Caesar invented the laurel leaf wreath to cover his receding hairline.

Too bad Julius didn't have access to Provillus in the days of the Roman Empire.

MPB results from genetic traits, and hormonal causes. Provillus can't change your genetic history, but it can help with the hormonal causes.

DHT is the hormone involved in hair loss

Normally, hair has three phases of growth:

  • Anagen - The growth phase, lasts for two to six years. Usually 90% of the hair is in growth phase.
  • Catagen -- A transient phase lasting a few weeks. The hair becomes thinner and the follicle starts shrinking.
  • Telogen - The thinned hairs fall off to make way for new hair. This lasts for two to four months.

When excess DHT is in the bloodstream, it shortens the Anagen, or growth phase, and causes premature shrinkage of the follicles. Because the DHT is bound to the follicle, often the hair will not re-grow normally.

Provillus helps block DHT from strangling your hair follicles.

Minoxidil, the ingredient clinically proven, and approved by the FDA for re-growing your hair, inhibits DHT. This powerful active ingredient works in your hair follicles.

We add a nourishing blend of natural herbs and minerals to the Provillus formula for men. These herbs and minerals support and provide nourishment to nourish your scalp and hair.

Don't put it off. Get started now to take care of your hair, prevent thinning, and re-grow your own hair.

  4. QUESTION:
How can aide in the growth of my hair?
i have naturally curly, dry, african american hair, what basic HEALTH steps can i take to make my hair grow as long as it can, and be healthy?
-wut temp. water should i use when washing my hair?
-wut CHEAP hair prduct could i use or better yet, are their any home remedies for hair care?

    • ANSWER:
HONEY IM GLAD I CAME ACROSS YOUR QUESTION... I went natural a little over a year ago, and i read and did plenty of research online about how to nourish your hair on the inside and out for obtaining maximum length and growth. Longhaircareforum.com helped me alot! My hair is now longer and healthier than it has ever been after only 16 months, and i cut it COMPLETELY OFF last year.

      1. Take a biotin supplement (u can get this from walgreens for about 5 dollars) it will help hair growth and thickness

      2. Take a Hair, Skin, and Nails supplement

      3. Use Sulfur 8 hair grease- it stinks like hell, but u can use it to grease your scalp once a week- it made my hair grow faster...

      4. Wash and condition once a week, DEEP condition at least twice a month with something like Motions CPR Protein Reconstructor, or whatever deep treatment conditioner you find that you like. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes, and sit under a dryer for extra conditioning.

      5. Only use heat on your hair when you absolutely have to, keep it down to preferably just once a week. Rollersets and wraps are best if you have relaxed hair, im natural so i just wear mine out in a puff.

      6. Profectiv has a line of mega growth strengthening creams and lotions, i havent found that they make your hair grow faster... but i use these products when i brush and blow dry and my blow- outs come out prettier and silkier than ever! They have helped to improve the condition of my hair beyond just washing and grease.

      7. Herbal Essences has a line of shampoo and conditioners called "Hello Hydration" i like these alot for my 4b rough, kinky hair. They moisturize and condition EXCELLENTLY, ANNND they are relatively cheap. You can find them at any drug store or supermarket, but you still MUST deep condition at least twice a month. If the condition of your hair sucks right now, then deep condition everytime you wash your hair, its not as hard as it sounds and your hair will thank you for it.

      8. YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS ALREADY, but neverrr sleep directly on your hair. ALWAYS tie up at night with a silk or satin scarf, even if you hair is in braids. If you wear big curly styles like me, get a satin bonnett from your local beauty supply store or walgreens for 2 dollars.

      9. Finally i wash my hair with the same temp water i use to take a shower. Make sure you comb and style with a W I D E tooth comb to minimize snagging and tearing.

I hope this helps and if u have any other questions feel free to let me know!!! Be patient and stay faithful honey! I am now one of those people who walks down the street and other girls ask me "is that your real hair???"

  5. QUESTION:
African American, Hair shedding/breaking like crazy! Could it be birth control? HELP!?
I'm an African American woman, I'm 19 and my hair is shedding like crazy but i don't know why. I stopped blow drying my hair almost a year ago, i put it in braids and let it air dry. I deep condition it and use damage reversal conditioners even though my hair isn't damaged at all. I stretch my straightening relaxers 10 weeks instead of six, and my hair dressers say that my hair is very healthy and in good condition. I always make sure its moisturized as well. I've gotten a lot of growth but i'm afraid all my work will go to waste because of this shedding and breaking. It sometimes even comes out at the slightest pull of hair.

I've done everything from putting an egg and mayo in my hair (i kno sounds weird but its a homemade remedy) to buying tons of breakage reversal products.

I don't know what to do. One factor i think that may be causing it is my birth control. i'm on Zovia and it says that hair loss can be a symptom but how long will this last? should i stop taking it? i'm not even sure if that's the cause. HELP! :)

    • ANSWER:
yes it could be but when you get you hair relaxed make Sure its only on your new growth not in the hair that has already been relaxed

  6. QUESTION:
What is the best way to determine if I need an African American relaxer/perm?
I did an at home treatment a little over two months ago and now my hair edges are rough, and I have a ton of new growth. Would I be better off using a deep conditioner or apply a perm to my edges? I'm going to a concert tomorrow night so I need to know if I should call a stylist now to get my hair professionally done or if there are any home remedies I could try?

    • ANSWER:
If you own a hot comb or small flat iron then you can straighten the roots. The longer you wait between touch-ups the better and healthier it is for your scalp. If you have a touch-up two months ago then you should have about 1 inch of new growth.

Sorry, can't offer you anything better. You can try going to a beautician for a style and they'll be able to straighten the roots without giving you a touch-up. Though, if your hair is falling out at the new growth then it's time for a touch-up. Yep, it's complicated.

One tip, get that new growth moisturized. This will make it more manageable. Something like a good cream moisturizer will do.

      Have fun, though.

This is my real hair as my avatar picture. I own an up and coming hair care company and you can find me on Facebook at Steffie Francais Hair Care.

Taking care of African American hair isn't difficult at all. All you need are the right products, and no grease because petroleum and mineral oil are bad for our hair, these ingredients clog the follicles and hinders maxium hair growth. Washing our hair is simple, one rule; no sulfates. Sulfates are the reasons why we are told not to shampoo our hair often, but once you find a shampoo without these you are on your way to healthy clean hair. My shampoo is all natural and contains no sulfates, it is non-drying and can be used as often as everyday. You could also just rinse and condition your hair everyday or every other day. Our hair is typically dry so our hair loves moisture and the only real moisture source is water, the problem arises when the water evaporates and leaves the hair dry and brittle, what you want to do is retain that moisture in the form of an oil, preferably a natural oil... preferably something with shea butter or olive oil in it
Be careful of store brought products... because the majority of black products aren't made by black people and are only manufactured for the company's profits.

  13. QUESTION:
Recommendations of hair growth products for natural hair?
I am transitioning from relaxed hair to natural hair and I recently cut most of the relaxer my hair. I currently use Aveda Dry Remedy shampoo, conditioner and African Angel Jojoba Oil to moisturize my scalp. I use Palmer's Coconut Formula Hair Milk to moisturize my ends. I don’t brush my hair anymore because I recently learned that brushing the hair(especially African American hair) can do more harm than good to the hair, but I’m not so certain. I was wondering should I keep using these products, use these products along with something else or use something different than the products I'm currently using?

    • ANSWER:
You don't seem to be doing anything wrong.
Combing/brushing is difficult and damaging for natural afro hair but useful to keep hair and scalp clean, try blow drying dry hair with a afro comb attachment and leave in conditioner this will make it easier and less damaging to comb/brush your hair - but only use wide toothed combs and SOFT natural bristle brushes.
Everyones hair grows, breakage is the problem, anything to minimize this will lead to longer hair.
Silk pillowcases/scarves, good combs/brushes and water are all good for your hair

  14. QUESTION:
    Black Hair Care Growth Products?
I have a daughter who is 2 years old, and like myself she was born bald and doesn't have that much hair. I am bi-racial and her father is African American, I have very long hair all the way down to butt. B/c of the way she was born (bald), I assume she will have long hair like me. However, her hair seems to be taking a long time to grow (like myself), is there a product that I can buy at the store (or even home remedy) that can stimulate her hair to grow faster and longer?

    • ANSWER:
My step daughter got head lice once and she got it bad from school.... Her mom ended up shaving her head...poor thing. Anyways there was concern about how long before it grew back and she didn't look like a boy (were talking military Short!) The BARBER her mom brought her to said to massage her head for five minutes a day because it will stimulate her hair folicules. Keep it up and her hair will grow about 1/2 inch in a month. We all did this with her and i used to do it with MY daughter when she was a baby. It grew like wild fire! I havent cut my daughters hair with the exception of a trim...her hair at 5 y/o is 1/2 way down her little butt. Seriously were talking mermaid long beautiful hair!

Careful what you wish for though because with length come tangles...ouchy use a detangler and/or put her hair in a pony tail when it gets to that length. I get told all the time if i ever cut it... im a dead woman....lol
Dont use a bunch of products on her shes a babe yet and that stuff isnt good. Just have some "quality" time and massage her head in circles with your fingers tips. soft and gentle. Johnsons or kids Sauve detangler is just fine.

  15. QUESTION:
I need some help on hair growth.?
i have very coarse, tight, frizzy hair. i basically have african american hair. i need to find a product, or home remedy on helping it grow, because as it grows out it gets smoother and less tight. Its really hard for me to find things that work, and its very short as of now. I don't want to stop straightening it because im only 13, and just want to fit in with everyone. HELP!(:

    • ANSWER:
Well hair grow half an inch each month on its own. But what I would suggest it try using Mane N' Tail Horse Shampoo and Conditioner. I use it all the timeand it does aid in growing your hair faster. I'd
say massage it into your scalp so it can get to your roots well this increases the blood flow helping
it grow faster. When shampooing and conditioning you should use cold or luke warm water on your hair so it won't damage it. Even hot water hurts your hair. You can find it at walmart in the pet section.
You should drink plenty of water to help condition your hair.

Eating Coconut oil also has benifits its not only good for adding nutrients to the hair, but its also
good for weight loss and has many more benifits.
And don't forget about exercising, as much as I hate it, it actually helps by increasing the blood flow
and stimulating the hair to grow faster.

      Hope I helped!

    • ANSWER:
You need to take a break from the perming. It will not allow your hair to grow properly since the chemicals are decreasing the thickness of your hair shaft. Is there anyway you could wear your hair in a protective style like braids, sew in weave or cornrows? This will give your hair time to heal from the damage excessive perming has caused.

    • ANSWER:
i am a hair stylist but i dont specialize in african american hair but i did do an african american girl once that had a similar problem to you she had braids in but she just had taken them out like a month before then and she kept saying her hair wasnt growing in the back, so we took a look at it and her hair was all broken off from where the braids were because the back of your neck is a sensitive spot, and sometimes it is more sensitive to more people, but she really wanted it to grow, but we convinced her to get it cut pretty short back there and blend it in to the top so she had a kinda short hair cut but a couple months later she came back to me and said the cut really helped it grow and she said what she would do if it itched or anything back there she would put conditioner or a lotion on her neck around where the hair was so she wouldnt touch it and it seemed to help it from breaking off

  21. QUESTION:
How can i make my hair grow faster?
I have African American hair, so i can't really wash it super often or else the relaxer i have in it will wear off and my hair will turn into a giant puff ball. Also, my hair is thin( if got it from my mom) and as far as it is growing now is just down to my neckline. I really would like it to grow down to my shoulder blades, but i really don't know why it won't grow. The weird thing is, is that i don't have split ends and my hair has been like this for months. Any help?
By the way, i have olive oil at home, and i also moisturize my hair with hair growth treatment every night and wrap it, but it doesn't help at all. Also an at home remedy would be the best option for me, but if i have to buy something, i can buy it as long as it's not too expensive.
    thanks so much in advance!!

    • ANSWER:
I"m thinking your hair is breaking off and this is why it's not getting longer. Average hair growth is 1/2 inch per month, 6 inches per year. If you're not seeing 6 inches more in length in 360 days then you've had breakage over the course of the year. Constant breakage can make your hair stay the same length or cause it to get shorter.

Split ends isn't the only thing that causes breakage, so your hair can break whether or not you have split ends. Relaxers are strong chemicals that weaken your hair, so they can also cause breakage. Anything can be causing your breakage, you have to figure out what it is and how to properly take care of your hair if you want it to grow long. No one can give you good advice without knowing what products you use, how you handle your hair, and what you do to your hair on a daily/weekly basis. All those things matter, because many times we do things that cause breakage without even knowing it.

Nothing can make it grow faster. Plus, even if we could make hair grow faster, you probably wouldn't see any results because you're having constant breakage. It's the breakage that keeps us at shorter lengths, not slow hair growth. Your hair is growing from your scalp no matter what you do to your hair. You have to figure out why you're not able to hang on to that growth.

BTW, relaxers don't "wear off." Relaxed hair can get poofy, frizz, and kinky when it gets wet, so you'll have to use an iron, or heat (hooded dryer and rollers, blow dryer) to get it bone straight again.
